The Story

Fender Custom Shop

A Fender Custom Shop instrument is extraordinary. You know it when you play one; it’s definitely more than the sum of its parts. It’s filled with intangible, electrifying elements that add a new dimension to your playing experience. It’s as if the instrument itself is imbued with history, alive with the spirit of the place where it was built and the devotion of those who crafted it.

This 1955 Telecaster is a perfect example of that. Weighing in at only 6.7 lbs, it's a super comfortable guitar to play all night. It features a select ash body and a riftsawn maple neck, with the 54 "U" neck shape, just as they were made back in the mid 50's. The main tweak is the 9.5" radius and 6105 frets, both common changes to Custom Shop instruments. The result is a vintage vibe with modern playability.

A pair of hand-wound '55 Tele pickups provide the classic twang but also the warmth that can be derived from a 50's Tele. A surprisingly versatile instrument, a Tele like this can be used for a variety of styles of music.

We chose to do this one as a Journeyman Relic, to give it the vibe of a guitar built in 1955, played extensively over the years, but well cared for, and not abused. So, you see the aging of the hardware, the lacquer finish checking, and a few dings, but not worn away paint or exposed wood. Most importantly, it feels great - that's the main reason to go for a relic'ed guitar from the Custom Shop.
