The "Sound Heard Around the World". The Fender Precision Bass is the true original. This Custom Shop creation speaks to bass players that want the classic feel & sound, with a bit of a twist: it's an ultra cool "color over color" finish. How does that happen?
First, a bit of history: back in the day, often times instruments would be painted one color, and then painted over. Sometimes that happened at the factory; sometimes it was by whomever bought the instrument and decided they wanted a different color. Either way, over time, the top color would wear off, and the underneath color would start to show through.
The Fender Custom Shop has been able to recreate this effect, and in the process, found a way to take what was already cool and made it cooler. For this particular one, it started as a Chocolate 3-Tone Sunburst, and then Black was applied on top. Next, the bass was given a Relic treatment, which allowed the sunburst finish to appear under the black, cutting through. The result is incredible.
It's not just about the aesthetics - it's about the feel and sound. After all, that's what really matters. This recreation of a 1958 P Bass has everything you'd expect - a rock solid quartersawn maple neck with a 57 Soft V shape, vintage tuners and bridge, and a Custom Shop Hand-Wound 57 P Bass pickup. This will provide you with all of the old school thump you need.
