The Story

Used And Vintage

Here's something you won't see often, but for those that know, it's a rather special find.  We just took in this rather cool Rider RG-500 acoustic.  Immediately, we saw what they were going for, and we're rather impressed!

Rider is a brand of acoustics made in Japan decades ago.  According to research, they were originally produced by Hayashi Guitars before 1977, and later by Headway Guitars after some of the Hayashi luthiers left to start the new company.  These high quality guitars were part of a line with models inspired by various classic styles.  There's a lot of other history we found about Rider, Yasuo Momose, and more, but let's get to this guitar....

As you can see, it was inspired by Guild.  You get a dreadnought that produces a rich, truly full-bodied sounds.  It's powerful without being overly boomy.  The guitar features a spruce top and rosewood back & sides, paired with a mahogany neck topped with a rosewood fretboard.  All classic components that equal a classic sound.  It has a slightly wider nut that makes fretting chords very comfortable.

From what we can tell, everything on the guitar is original.  It's in great condition, with some wear and dings but nothing major - considering that it's around 50 years old, it's in nice shape.  We just had the techs in our shop go through it and give it a full setup, so it's ready to go.  A gig bag is included.

Rider acoustics were only produced for a short period, perhaps two years in the mid-to-late 70's.  While you'll see some in Japan, it's rather rare to find one here in the U.S.  We had never seen one come in until this one.  At this price, it's a great score.
